Our Story
At Silkstone Vineyard, we are a family-run vineyard business in the hamlet of Cawthorpe, outside Bourne Lincolnshire. We focus on viticulture (growing of the grapes) and leave the vinification (making of the wine) to specialist contract wine makers, Haygrove Evolution.
We started this journey in 2020, with what was originally meant to be a hobby project, was wrongly estimated and ended up a small business.
Our location is one of the driest and low lying in England, perfect condition for growing Bacchus grapes .
Our Vineyard
Our vineyard, planted in 2020, is a labour of love and a testament to our commitment to quality. We’ve chosen to focus solely on Bacchus vines, a grape variety that we believe offers a perfect balance of acidity and fruitiness for our climate. Bacchus thrives here, and we’ve carefully curated this vineyard to give the vines the best possible chance to flourish.
To ensure each vine gets ample exposure to sunlight, we’ve arranged the vineyard with 20 rows of varying lengths. This strategic layout isn’t just for aesthetic purposes; it’s designed to maximise the vines’ access to the sun throughout the day. We’ve also taken the wind into account, with this design allowing the natural breeze to circulate freely, strengthening the vines and helping them build resilience.
Our Wine
Silkstone Vineyard Bacchus 2023 is our first vintage, with the grapes hand-picked in October 2023 by a brilliant team of volunteers from the local ladies running and ramblers clubs, neighbours and friends—making it a fun community effort. Our wine was released in June 2024, and has received great feedback from wine enthusiasts and very positive reviews from professional in the wine industry for its crystal clear appearance, complex nose and herbaceous pallet.
Our second vintage (Silkstone Vineyard Bacchus 2024) is looking to be just as special as our previous vintage and will be complimented with Bacchus / Chardonnay Blend for those who prefer a slightly sweeter white wine.
